The turn of the century has been
marked by a remarkable increase in both the number and diversity of career
possibilities available. A range of professions earlier rejected for being
unprofitable interest pursuits only today find a place among lucrative
mainstream careers. Notwithstanding this widening, the field of engineering has
maintained its leading position as the top ranked discipline choice of men and
women across the world.Engineering graduates are also in high demand in
non-engineering sectors globally for their keen scientific and mathematical
capabilities.
Sample this- There are almost 3400
engineering colleges in India offering degree courses in as many as 40
disciplines altogether with a capacity of over 15lac students. Between 2005-10,
the number of engineering colleges in the country has grown at a sharp rate of
19%.This is attributable to a steep growth in engineering education in the
country with a swell in the number of engineering colleges in the last two
decades. Given this growth, the quality of education in engineering colleges
and employability of engineering graduates has gained attention.
Uttarakhand has become a hub of quality
education in the country and can today boast of a lot of top quality
engineering colleges in the country. Uttarakhand is the home to the first civil
engineering college in Asia, today known as IIT Roorkee. IIT Roorkee
has been at the forefront of civil engineering research and innovations in the
country and the students are today employed at the best construction companies
in India.
It is imperative that engineering

employability. In a recent survey conducted by an independent agency, the top 10 engineering colleges of Uttarakhand
were identified.
